There is no definitive correct pH as different fish species have their preferred pH range. Generally, an acceptable pH value will lie between 7 and 8, but there are some exceptions. When purchasing fish from your local aquatic retailer, always enquire as to the specific water requirements of the fish you are buying, and or do some research on the Internet. pH is important, over time with none or insufficient water changes, the pH in your aquarium will likely drop to a very low acidic value and be very detrimental to the health of your fish, likewise at a low acidic pH biological filters are less efficient. Check your aquarium Ph regularly and ensure it stays stable, also for comparison, check the tap water pH also from time to time.
